| Our Story
It sounds so simple
but the story behind Shur Grow is rich in tradition and history.
The story of the Shur Grow seed line-up will add a new chapter on September 1, 2009. That is the date of the consolidation of Champaign Landmark, Inc. and The Farmers Commission Company to form Heritage Cooperative, Inc.
Shur Grow was first introduced to the farmers of Ohio in the early 1960s by The Ohio Grain Company, an agricultural company founded in 1913 with the purpose of serving the farmers of central Ohio. The first seeds offered through the Shur Grow name were primarily common varieties of seeds developed through the "public" sector of the industry.
By the early 1980s, most of the top performing hybrids and varieties were starting to come from the "private" breeding companies in the seed industry.
In 1984, Shur Grow introduced their first "elite genetics" that were available exclusively under the Shur Grow brand. By identifying the lines that excelled on the soils in Ohio, the Shur Grow brand experienced rapid growth soon after introduction.
Champaign Landmark, Inc. purchased Shur Grow from The Ohio Grain Company in 1992 and this opened the doors to new technologies and plant breeding that only proved to strengthen the Shur Grow line-up.
Specific "traits" began entering the seed industry in the late 1990s and
Shur Grow was again there to lead the way for the farmers in Ohio. The seed business was no longer as simple as identifying the best genetics for Ohio soils. Now you needed genetics to offer the traits that would insure top performance on Ohio farms.
As we move into the future where "biofuels" are becoming a larger part of our industry, you can count on Shur Grow to continue to offer the best genetics and traits–selected specifically for the farmers of Ohio!
